Thai PM to Pay First Visit to Cambodia Tomorrow

PHNOM PENH: Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin will pay his first official visit to Cambodia tomorrow, September 28. During his visit, the Thai Prime Minister will lay a wreath at the Independence Monument and pay tribute to the late King Norodom Sihanouk.

He will then hold bilateral meetings with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet with the aim of deepening and further enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields.The two sides will also exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest and concern.

Additionally, they will attend a handover ceremony for the Transit and Reception Center for Victims of Trafficking and Other Vulnerable Groups in Poipet, a joint venture between the two countries. A grant for the project came from the Thai government, totaling over $2.1 million US. The center spans nearly 10,000 square meters and began construction in August 2022.

PM Srettha Thavisin will pay a courtesy call to Senate President Say Chhum, who is Acting Head of State while the king is in China on a medical visit, in addition to former Prime Minister Hun Sen, who is now Chairman of the King's Personal Advisory Council, and National Assembly President Khuon Sodary.

Cambodia will further strengthen traditional ties and enhance cooperation on Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin's first official visit to Cambodia in the spirit of "Strengthening Partnership for Peace and Prosperity," which they say provides mutual benefits for the people of the two countries and contributes to the promotion of peace, stability and prosperity within ASEAN and the international community.
